Performance Spotlight: Peace Transcends

This week's Performance Spotlight is Peace Transcends
Vera Passos' first full length work for the company which honored our wise elder, Ebomi Cici. Peace Transcends debuted in May 2015 (for the Ford on the Road Series) at the Aratani Theater in downtown LA.

These photos represent the Ibejis[Twins] section which honored the playful nature of children and the sacredness of youth in response to violent killings that had occurred in Ebomi Cici's Vila America neighborhood and in the Cabula neighborhood of Salvador, Bahia. Dona Cici is a huge devotee of the ibjeji orixas and so we share the joy of games, celebrations, and life itself!

On September 27th in Bahia, there are wonderful parties for the children called Carurus where delicious Afro-Braziilian foods are served, sweets and gifts!

#VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent - LA Commons

This week's #VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent entry is our amazing community partner LA Commons. LA Commons works with communities and local artists to create "highly visible public art projects that tell dynamic neighborhood stories." They emphasize the importance of local narratives, and use the power of ordinary citizens, through a sense of collectiveness, to meet the challenges facing their neighborhoods. The importance of these art instillations is to "amplify the collected stories, beautify the built environment, and inspire community members" to raise the voices of unheard neighborhoods in LA. Please consider using your #money to donate, #voice to share, or even #talent to volunteer as an artist.

More about the organization:

Mission: LA Commons engages communities in the creation of public art that tells their unique stories and serves as the basis for dialogue, interaction, and a better understanding of Los Angeles.

Samba In The Streets Culmination
With the funding from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Viver Brasil was invited to create program to explore social justice practice by empowering womxn through the Afro-Brazilian drumming and dance.

We enthusiastically invite you to the culmination of our third session 5-week program that met twice a week with intensive study of Samba de Roda drumming with VB Music Director, Clarice Cast and Samba de Roda dance with VB Associate Artistic Director, Vera Passos.

Join sixteen incredible womxn who embraced the power of these socially and politically motivated forms. The dance and drum provided an opportunity to uplift, to celebrate, and to share the intensity of living in the COVID19 pandemic and the remarkable global show of solidarity for Black Lives.

This beautiful group of womxn found the strength of dance and music to collectively celebrate the body beautiful as well as the power and community that comes with drumming together, even if physically distant.

We invite you all to join the final performance on Friday, October 2nd at 12:45pm on Zoom.
Meeting ID: 865 0843 0263
